William Manstel Haynes Jr. , Lancing, TN, left this life March 25, 2020 at Oak Ridge Hospital. He was 62 years old. Family and friends called him Matt.
Matt was born October 12, 1957 in Knoxville, TN. The golden child of William and Mary Haynes. He attended Oak Ridge High School class of 1975. He earned his bachelor degree in 1981 from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN. Matt retired from Morgan County Correction Complex after 30 years as a correction counselor3.
Bright and imaginative, Matt loved creating art and music. He loved preforming as the lead singer in the rock band Boss Man Blues, with his brother and best friend Stanley. They played several Secret City Festivals and other local venues. Matt was an avid outdoorsman. Hiking the Appalachian Trail in his teens. Fishing was a passion. He also loved gardening. Raising massive amounts of summer produce to share with his family and neighbors from a garden on his back porch. He practiced marital arts and was a collector of different types of weaponry.
Matt was a very kind, complex, humorous person. He will be missed.
Matt is survived by his brother, Richard (Pat) Piester, Lynchberg, VA. Sisters MarNella (George) Cordato, Craryville, NY and Jennera (Sam) Ortiz, Green Springs, Oh. Nieces, Rikki Webb, Newport News, VA, Paqi Gill, Green Springs, Brittney Megan Haynes, Lancing, TN. Nephew, Joshua Haynes, California. Also survived by his companion pets, Jethro and Jazz.

Graveside services will be Friday March 27, 2020 11:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. We will gather for a celebration of Matt's life when our nation has recovered from this pandemic. Services entrusted to Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home 865-483-4341
