Thomas Frederick Young

Thomas Frederick Young was born on September 2, 1943, in Berkeley, California. He peacefully returned to his Heavenly Father, in Oak Ridge, TN on March 9, 2023. Thomas married his best friend in 1968 and spent nearly 50 years with her, raising children and grandchildren, before she passed away. He was blessed to find love again with Karen in 2020. Hard working from a young age, he was dedicated to providing for his family and worked tirelessly to do so. He spent 3 years in the Air Force as an Ammunition Specialist before pursuing a career as an Electrical Engineer. His innate talents for wood working were admired by many as he would create beautiful furniture and other pieces that we are lucky to have as a reminder of his passion for building. He was a gentle leader who loved to teach, especially in the garage with his immense tool collection, often lending a hand to friends and neighbors. It seemed like he knew how to fix just about anything! His presence is greatly missed but we were blessed to have had him here with us for 79 years. He fought to stay with us, and a piece of our hearts left with him. Known best as Dad and Papa, we love him very much!! 

He was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia (Bulle) Young, his parents Louis Young, and Ethel (Anthony) Fernandez. 

He is survived by his wife Karen Young, children Shelby (Gregory) Butler and Amanda (Darrell) Sproles; stepchildrenJeremy (Jennifer) Plemons and Matt Becknell; grandchildren Josiah Sproles, Joseph Butler, Charlie Ann Sproles, Taelyn Butler, Elijah Butler, Sydney Solis, and Haley Solis; step-grandchildren Maddie Plemons and Carter Becknell; great-granddaughter Harlie Butler, and sister Marvelle (Gerard) Linschoten.

Services will be held, as follows, on Saturday, March 11, 2023

Family will receive friends from 1 – 2 pm

Funeral services will begin at 2 pm
