Thomas Hastings Pickens age 92 is in the care of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home. Thomas passed away in the early morning hours of March 27, 2018 at National Health Care in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. He was born December 24, 1925 in Charleston, West Virginia to Samuel Maxwell Pickens and Mabel Jane Hastings. A Veteran of World War II, he entered the United States Navy July 1 1943 as an aviation mechanics mate 3rd class in Charleston, West Virginia, and was a tail gunner on a Navy plane in the pacific where he received commendations. After reenlistment in the United States Air Force he served our country as a sergeant at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. Thomas attended the University of Alabama for two years in Pre-Engineering, and worked in Electrical Workers Union and as a guard at K-25, Y-12 and Martin Marietta and retired on July 12, 1983. He was preceded in death by his parents; Samuel and Mabel Pickens, his first wife; Dorothy Black and a daughter; Susan Pickens. Thomas is survived by his wife of 27 years Barbara Sherrell Pickens. Three daughters; Teresa Thomas, Debbie Hanes and Christie Bell. many grandchildren and great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation with the family will be Saturday evening from 6-7 pm with a memorial service following at 7pm in the chapel of martin Oak Ridge funeral Home.
