Steven Elliot Christie, born November 2, 1956, passed away on Saturday , March 22, 2025.
Steve was one of three sons born to Francis and Helen Christie.
His early days involved church, sports, and summertime on the lake and in the woods with friends.
Steve was the kind of person who was happy to get along with everyone, and he excelled at that. His kindness, humor, and easygoing nature made him a friend to many, and he had a way of making those around him feel welcome and appreciated.
After high school Steve briefly attended college before deciding to move to Newport News Virginia to pursue and receive his welding certificate. After returning to the Oak Ridge, Steve worked for years with a Knoxville construction company building commercial canopies and structures.
Steve started a family with Kim Kennedy and together, they welcomed their daughter, Kaylie, into the world. The connection between Steve and Kaylie was very close—a father and daughter who adored one another. Whether they were fishing, playing softball, or just enjoying time together, Steve treasured every moment with her. Steve’s grandson, Eli Hopper, brought immense joy to Steve’s life. He cherished the experience of becoming a grandfather and sharing his passion for fishing with Eli.
In his final five years, Steve resided in the Tampa, Florida area with Patty Ellis Kidd. They preferred the warmer winters and a more relaxed lifestyle in that region. Steve found great pleasure in savoring delicious meals, engaging in poolside activities, and watching sports. Among his favorite teams were the Tennessee Volunteers, his beloved sports team, and the Atlanta Braves, another team that held a special place in his heart.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother and father Francis and Helen Christie, and his older brother Robert Christie.
Steve is survived by his daughter Kaylie Christie of Harriman, his grandson, Eli Hopper, his wife, Kim Christie, his brother Keith Christie and wife Andrea Christie, his nephews Carter and Cole Christie and Robert Christie, as well as by April Nitzsche his niece.
He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the stories we tell, the friendships he built, and the love he shared.
Rest easy, Steve. You were, and always will be a wonderful person who is remembered with love.
