Spurgeon Guy

Spurgeon H. Guy an Oak Ridge resident for 59 years, passed away at Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge, TN on June 28, 2016.
Spurgeon (Spud) who was born July 29, 1929 at Fork Mountain TN to William Mack Guy and Lillie Norman Guy. After graduating from Coalfield High School he left home to attend East Tennessee State University where he received his Teaching Certificate. Spurgeon played football while attending ETSU. He returned to Fork Mountain where he taught school.
He met Polly Clark in 1951 and they married on July 14, 1951 in Anderson County TN by the Reverend Bill Beets. Spurgeon and Polly moved to Dayton, Ohio where he worked for United Aircraft. They returned to Tennessee about a year later. Spurgeon then went to Savannah, GA to work for Union Carbide. He returned to Oak Ridge where he worked at K-25 then later at Y-12. He remained at Y-12 until his retirement in 1984 at the age of 55.
Spurgeon worked a number of years at Western Auto as a salesman and also Harry lane car dealership.
He loved his family and friends, but especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved to write and made up Wampus Cat stories for the children.
Spurgeon was a member of Highland View Church of Christof Oak Ridge. He will be remembered by his love and devotion for his family. He was preceded in death by his father, William Mack Guy, and his Mother Lillie Norman Guy.
Mr. Guy is survived by his wife Polly Clark Guy of Oak Ridge; his children, Danny H. Guy and wife, Nancy of Oak Ridge, Teresa A. Johnson and husband Ronald of King George, VA; his grandchildren Mack K. Sealand, Oak Ridge, Matthew Guy and wife Kate of Falmouth, VA, Danika Levesque and husband Mike of Lone Tree CO, Marisa Smith and husband Shannon of Florence, AL, Elizabeth Sealand and husband Nathan Brazle of Crossville, TN, Mindy Hudson and husband , Eric of Lithia FL, Miranda Young and husband Justin, of Oak Ridge, and Teresa Guy of Oak Ridge; and 15 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Bobby Guy and wife Udena of Roane County, TN, sister Joanne Penland and husband Richard of Clinton, TN, and a sister Karen Taylor and husband, Mike of Roane County, TN
Memorial service will be Saturday July 02, 2016 from 7PM at Highland View Church of Christ in Oak Ridge, TN. Visitation with the family will begin at 6PM until time of service
