Richard Adrian Walker III, 44, died at his home in Oak Ridge on March 18, 2011. Mr. Walker was born May 1, 1966, in Atlanta, Georgia, to former Oak Ridgers Richard (Dixie) Adrian Walker Jr. and the former Amelia (Mimi) Rector Bell.
Mr. Walker served in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS America; after his military service he entered the medical field. He served as a health-care professional and case manager for many years at Seton Medical Center in San Francisco, California. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from City College of San Francisco and pursued graduate studies at State University of New York.
Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his father Richard (Dixie) Adrian Walker Jr. and his aunt, Carole Walker Vale, as well as his grandparents Richard Adrian Walker, Marjorie Walker, Burwell Baxter Bell Jr., and Mary Rector Bell (all former Oak Ridgers). Survivors include his mother Amelia (Mimi) Bell Knight, stepfather Ambassador James Knight, sister Mary Amelia Walker, niece Amelia DeShay Savage, nephew Robert Daniel Williams, great-nephew Myles Miranda and uncle General Burwell Baxter Bell III, as well as his long-term friend and housemate John Wildman.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, March 24 at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home and will celebrate Mr. Walker's life with a memorial mass at 10:30 am on Friday, March 25th in the Chapel of Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Oak Ridge. A reception will follow in Columbus Hall at St. Mary's. Family and friends are invited to attend his interment with military honors at Oak Ridge Memorial Park at 12:15 pm on Friday, March 25th following the mass and reception.
