Richard Varble Anderson, of Oak Ridge, died early Monday, April 20, 2015, at Canterfield of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Anderson retired in 1988 from the Y-12 plant, having attended the University of Kentucky as well as receiving two degrees from the University of Tennessee.
He was born in Louisville, Ky., on June 28, 1920, the son of Alan and Ida Anderson.
Mr. Anderson played several instruments, with a special gift for violin and piano. He enjoyed photography, maintaining a full dark room at home, was an avid square dancer, and loved to tinker and fix things. He never passed an electronic device without discovering how it worked.
Mr. Anderson was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Therese Anderson. He is survived by his two daughters, Peggy Mitchell of Oak Ridge and Bobbie Gebauer and her husband, Donald, of Overland Park, Kan.; and sisters-in-law, Johnnie Wheatley and her husband, Charlie, and Rose Thompson, all of Louisville, Ky.; grandchildren: Richard, Karen, Pam, Greg, Katie, Chris, Emily, Katie and Jon; great-grandchildren: Rhiannon, Riley, Jack, Ian, Aidan, Megan, Steven and Ireland.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 1 pm on Friday, April 24 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Bede Aboh officiating. The family will receive friends at 12:30, at St. Mary's before Mass.
