Paul Edward Smith, Jr., 86, of Oak Ridge, passed away September 18, 2020, after a six-month battle with cancer. Paul was born in Cottontown, Tennessee, to Paul Edward Smith, Sr. and Alice D (Stone) Smith. He was predeceased by both parents and his brothers, Henry Padgett and Peter Wynne.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Anne Smith; daughters Sarah Ann Smith of Murfreesboro and Lori Roets Valone (Paul) of Bryson City, NC; grandsons Joshua Thomas Roets and Kristopher Ryan Roets (Madeline) and great-granddaughter Mackenzie Lee Roets. In addition he leaves behind his much-loved constant companion, his cat Sabra.
Retiring as a Chief Petty Officer from the United States Navy after 20 years service, Paul settled with his family in Oak Ridge in 1970. He worked for 24 years at Y-12. Following his retirement, he spent a number of years volunteering with Habitat for Humanity.
Memorials may be made to the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter or to a charity of your choice.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, September 26, 11 a.m., at Oak Ridge Memorial Park, 1501 Bethel Valley Road.
