Mr. Arthur Paul Snyder, age 66, died in his home on Feb. 12, 2011.
He was born Dec. 27, 1944, in Oak Ridge and, except for short periods of residing in Texas and California, made Oak Ridge his home. Paul was the firstborn son of Arthur Herbert Snyder and Margaret Fox Snyder, also of Oak Ridge.
Mr. Snyder received his engineering degree from Christian Brothers College, Memphis, in 1966. He then joined the United States Air Force and, as a lieutenant, developed expertise in military avionics. After having attained the rank of captain, he was honorably discharged from the military. Mr. Snyder worked for Union Carbide as a quality control engineer. He became a highly skilled computer expert and worked for years at the Computer Center of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Following his retirement, Mr. Snyder devoted much of his time to selflessly caring for his elderly mother, Margaret ''Marge'' Snyder, who passed away last October.
Paul is survived by his sister, Margaret ''Peggy'' Snyder of Washington, D.C.; brother, James F. Snyder of Houston, Texas; his nephew, Arthur Andrew Snyder and niece, Alexa Snyder, of Houston, Texas.
Mr. Snyder will be buried, with full military honors, at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Pike, Knoxville, TN 37919. A Memorial Mass will be offered thereafter at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The family will receive friends after Mass.
