Mary Theresa King Fair, 96 of Oak Ridge passed away on Thursday, August 10,
2017 at NHC Fort Sanders in Knoxville. She was in the rehabilitation center to
regain her strength after a hospital stay. She was scheduled to return to her
home at Greenfield Senior Living in Oak Ridge the next day.
She was born in Johnstown, PA. on May 11, 1921 to William and Gertrude King.
She was preceded in death by her husband Myron Frank, daughter Mary Ann
Galante and son Myron King. She is survived by her daughter Jeanne Fair of
Knoxville and several nieces and nephews. She had many special friends who
were near and dear to her heart especially Laura Robbins, Connie Adams and
Colleen Black who preceded her in death.
Mary was an RN at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge for 25 years where she
worked in the nursery. She loved working and has remained in close contact with the
group of nurses she worked with at MMC. She received her RN at Pittsburg Hospital
School of Nursing and has her BS in Nursing Education from Duquesne University.
She married Myron Frank Fair in 1944 and later moved to Oak Ridge. It was while
working at the Army Corp Clinic at Duquesne University where she met Myron while
removing a cinder from his eye.
Mary was a faithful and active member of St. Mary's Church in Oak Ridge. She
loved going to mass and found comfort in praying the rosary with friends. She
enjoyed helping with all the church activities and attending Senior events hosted
by the school children.
She loved people and could always be seen in her seasonal outfits talking and
laughing with friends. She led a full and active life in Oak Ridge serving as a Girl
Scout and Mariner Scout leader. She was a member of the St. Mary's Bridge Club,
Catholic Women's Club, Monday Thing, University Women's Book Club,
Travelogue Group, League of Women voters, Church Women United, Heritage
Preservation Association and the Secret City Festival.
Mary enjoyed flower gardening, reading, cooking, meeting friends at Panera's,
traveling and a good cup of hot, black coffee. She was an AVID Lady Vol Basketball
fan and an original member of the Boost Her Club. She was known for all her festive
outfits for every occasion and cards written with her beautiful calligraphy. She enjoyed
the last four years living at Greenfield Senior Living and making new friends, playing cards
and attending presentations.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 15 at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home
1017 Oak Ridge Turnpike, from 3pm to 6pm. A rosary will follow at 6pm.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 16 at St. Mary's Church, 323 Vermont
Avenue at 11am. A reception will follow.
Burial will be at Anderson Memorial Gardens.
