Marilyn Ruth Galloway

October 4, 1938 — January 24, 2025

Virginia

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Marilyn Ruth Jones Galloway, who left this world on January 24th, 2025 surrounded by love and peace. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, whose kindness and strength touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

Born to Sam H. Jones Jr. and Vivian Lyons Jones on October 4th, 1938 in Sunbright, Tennessee with a generous spirit and an unwavering dedication to family, Marilyn lived a life filled with love, faith, and compassion. She was known for her warmth, her caring spirit, and her ability to make any gathering feel like home. Whether through a kind word, a helping hand, or a comforting embrace, she left an indelible mark on those around her. Marilyn grew up in Sunbright and Oak Ridge, TN, she was a Graduate of UT and raised her family in Webster Groves, MO. She worked as a dietician and a teacher’s aide in the St. Louis Special Education School District and moved back to Oak Ridge to be near family upon her retirement.

Marilyn’s life was one of quiet grace and unwavering devotion—to her loved ones, to her community, to God and to the values she held dear. She had a deep appreciation for life’s simple joys, whether it was sharing stories, creating cherished traditions, or simply enjoying a peaceful moment with family.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter Stacey Galloway (Brooklyn, NY), her son and his wife Scott & Gina Galloway (Smithfield, VA) and her grandchildren Kaitlyn Galloway (Smithfield, VA) and Grayson Galloway (Kansas City, KS), as well as her brother Sam H. Jones III (Knoxville, TN), sister and brother-in-law Patricia Jones and Rev. James Calhoun (Union City, TN), sister-in-law, Betty Eason (Oak Ridge, TN) and close cousins Sharon & Charlie Anderson (Oak Ridge, TN). She is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years James M (Mike) Galloway and her sister Sarah Jane Jones Hawn. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit and the love she shared will remain in our hearts forever.

A visitation with the family to honor and celebrate Marilyn’s life will be held at Mott-McKamey Funeral Home in Oak Ridge, TN from 9:00-11:00 am on February 13, 2025 with a gravesite service in the memorial chapel at Oak Ridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Oak Ridge, TN at 11:30 am on February 13, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Epilepsy Foundation of East Tennessee in her memory.

May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by God and the love she so freely gave in life. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com and www.mottmckameyfh.com
