Lorraine Obituary

May 30, 1924 — August 26, 2014

Lorraine Pilloud died August 26, 2014, at Greenfield Senior Living where she had lived the last 5 years. She grew up as the youngest of four children born to William and Sadie Freije in Binghamton, New York, all of whom have preceded her in death.
She was born in Binghamton, New York, on May 30, 1924. She attended Binghamton Central High School followed by Wilson Memorial Hospital Nursing School where she graduated as a Registered Nurse. She worked for many years in both hospital and industrial environments. She married Frank Pilloud in 1945, and until his death 64 years later provided a loving home for their family. Frank worked for IBM and his career took them to Endicott, New York, Rochester, Minnesota, and Raleigh, North Carolina, where he retired after 30 years. After retirement they moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to be near their daughter and her family.
In each location Lorraine maintained a very active presence in her local Episcopal Church. At times she served as a leader in altar guilds and various other women's groups. At St. Stephen's in Oak Ridge she organized and led for many years the Hospitality Ministry which welcomes visitors and communicants to the church during the work week. She was an avid bridge player and a member of Eastern Star. She and Frank enjoyed entertaining friends and traveled extensively in America and Europe.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Rob Steele; 3 grandchildren: Robert Steele (Dianne), Rebecca Ringe (Gerry), and Susannah Steele; and 5 great grandchildren: Dante, Myndi, and Kali Steele and Emma and Amanda Ringe.
Services are scheduled for 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 30, 2014, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 212 N Tulane in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, followed by interment of ashes in the St. Stephens Memorial Garden. A reception will follow in the parish hall. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Lorraine's memory.
