Kenneth Donald Shupp, Jr, 68, of Oak Ridge, TN passed away peacefully at Methodist Medical Center on March 24.
Ken was born and raised in Seneca Falls, NY, where he graduated from Mynderse Academy. He started drum lessons at the age of 5 and performed in the school concert, marching and jazz bands as well as the local drum and bugle corps. After high school, Ken played in several local rock and country music bands, and continued during a long career in commercial property management. Ken spent several years with TrizecHahn Corporation as operations manager for shopping malls in California, Nevada, Tennessee, North Carolina, New Jersey, and New York. He moved to Oak Ridge in 1999 to be closer to his sister. After retiring from TrizecHahn, Ken started Diversified Property Services, a residential property maintenance company handling everything from lawn care to small renovations. In 2011, he became a CNA before retiring for the last time a few years ago. He continued to play drums with local bands in Oak Ridge and occasionally with the Oak Ridge Philharmonia.
Ken is predeceased by parents Kenneth Donald Shupp Sr and Elsie Catherine Clapper Shupp, maternal grandparents Samuel Wilbert Clapper and Helen Marie Lupton Clapper, and paternal grandparents Lloyd Sylvester Shupp and Adele Dauman Shupp. He is survived by sisters Cynthia Jeffers (Doug) of Oliver Springs and Sandra Campbell (David) of Murfreesboro, nephews Matthew and Nathan Wunder and their families of Lyons, NY, and special friend Gayle Nowakowski of Oak Ridge. The family would like to thank the staff and hospice team on 4 West at Methodist Medical Center for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held April 5 at Mott-McKamey Funeral Home in Oak Ridge with Pastor Andrew Lay of Cokesbury United Methodist Church officiating. Receiving of friends starts at 2 PM with the service beginning at 3 PM.
