Janet Lee Harlan, age 86, of Oak Ridge passed away on July 15, 2023, surrounded by family at NHC.
Jan was born on May 28, 1937, in Witcher, West Virginia. The family moved to Oak Ridge in 1944 when her father was transferred. Jan enrolled at Highland View School in the second grade and graduated Oak Ridge High School in 1955, continuing her education at Tennessee Tech University. She then embarked on a 40+ year career in banking, ultimately retiring from Bank of America in 2002. Her dedication and impact earned her many awards during her tenure in the banking industry.
Jan was a member of American Business Women’s Association and Beta Sigma Phi. She held numerous offices of leadership in each organization.
The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jan. She enjoyed traveling, reading, puzzles, and dining out with friends and family. She was fondly called “Gran Jan”.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents Hubert & Lena Harlan and niece Karen Creigh.
She is survived by sisters: Ann Creigh Moody (Gene) of Oak Ridge and Judy Collins (Ed) of Ridgewood, New Jersey and Brother: Ken Harlan (Fran) of Canton, GA.
Nephews: James Creigh, David Creigh of Oak Ridge, Greg Collins of CA, Steven Collins of NJ, Paul Harlan (Claire) of GA and nieces: Donna Hutson of Knoxville and Ann Aragon (Pate) of GA.
Grandnephews: Jamie Hutson (Sally), Matt Hutson (Kerry), Brett Hutson (Mary), and Josh Hutson (Courtney), Bryce Collins, Aiden Collins, Ryhs Collins, Eli Collins, Ethan Collins.
Great grandnieces: Kaitlyn Hutson and Maggie Hutson. Great grandnephews: Brady Hutson, Riley Hutson, Drew Hutson, Andy Hutson, Cameron Hutson, Jay Hutson, and Christian Hutson.
The family will receive friends on Saturday August 19, 2023, from 2-4 p.m. at Mott-McKamey Funeral Home 1017 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. The memorial service will follow led by Pastor Tom Job of Christ Community Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to a charity of your choice.
