Jane started her education at the St. Aloysius Catholic School, which became St. Patrick’s Catholic School, and she attended and graduated from Meridian High School in 1966 with Highest Honors and Meridian Junior College in 1968 with Honors. Then she went on to the University of Mississippi where she earned a BA in English and Journalism, with a minor in History, in 1970. During the 1974/75 academic year Jane taught high school English at East Rankin Academy in Pelahatchie, MS, but in 1979 she decided to return to the University of Mississippi, School of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctorate degree in 1982. After graduating from law school, Jane worked as an attorney for the next 40 years. From June 1982 to July 1984, she was a Staff Attorney for North Mississippi Rural Legal Services in West Point.
She worked for East Mississippi Legal Services in Meridian from July 1984 to May 1986, first as a Staff Attorney and then as the Managing Attorney. In February 2004, Jane closed her private practice and began working as a Staff Attorney for the 12th Chancery Court District of Mississippi, which includes Lauderdale and Clarke counties. In that position she assisted the Chancellors with legal research, case management control, and contributions to opinion writing. This is the position she retired from in March 2022. Jane was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and aunt, as well as a legal advocate and great friend to many in the community.
She overcame adversity in her life to become a responsible citizen and productive member of society, and serves as an inspiration to all that knew her.
