Jane H Fleckenstein, 93, of Oak Ridge, TN & Baneberry, TN passed away on Friday, November 1, 2024 after a long & fulfilling life.
Jane was born 05/08/1931 to David and Elizabeth Whitton in Jamaica, New York. After general education schooling, she attended Waynesburg College, in Waynesburg, PA. She graduated in 1952 with an associate degree in secretarial science. After graduating she started her first job at Sperry Gyroscope in New York City, NY. In 1955 she met Howard Fleckenstein in Rockville Center, NY and they were married on 02/28/1959. In 1964 they adopted their first child, Eric H Fleckenstein and in 1968 they adopted their daughter, Sara J Fleckenstein- Moore. They lived in Lionville, PA, Columbia, Md, & West Chester, PA. Jane’s final job before retirement was with the City of Coatesville, PA where she was administrative assistant to multiple city managers. In 1996 they retired to Baneberry, TN.
Jane held a love for music and singing, whether it was at church or one of the many community choral groups that she belonged to. She sang with the Columbia Pro Cantare, in Columbia, Maryland where she was able to sing with the Baltimore symphony orchestra at Merriweather Post Pavillion. She also loved the beach & visiting various places in the United States. Her greatest claim to fame was to make sure for every holiday or special occasion that everyone received a card. She loved to stay in communication with friends. At 93, Jane was able to recount many historical events, before her disease she was able to tell you what life was like during “The Great Depression”, remembering getting dressed for church the morning Pearl Harbor was attacked. She could recount many other special dates in history such as The Korean Conflict, Vietnam War, men landing on the moon, Desert storm I and II, the horrific day of 9/11 and many more.
Jane loved abundantly & was loved. She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Howard Fleckenstein. Her parents David and Elizabeth Whitton and her sister Janet Whitton-Barker.
She is survived by her son, Eric Fleckenstein (his girlfriend Pamela Paris) of Silver Spring Maryland. Her daughter, Sara Fleckenstein- Moore (Russ), her step-grandson, Andrew Moore (Anessa) and step great-granddaughter, Myra Moore. As well as her favorite grand dog, Mattydale Moore, all of Oak Ridge, TN. Niece, Kathleen Barker, Great Niece Janet Barker-Webber (John) & Great-Great Niece, Shelby Webber all of California.
The family would like to thank the Staff of Commonwealth Senior Living of Oak Ridge, especially the team on the second floor, all of them embraced her like family and Mark (Louise), Matthew, Lauren & Kate Joyce of Baneberry, TN who adopted her like a mother and grandmother after her husband passed away. They enjoyed many family events and holidays together & the wonderful care & support given by the Joyce Family.
