Jacob B. (Jay) Stines, Jr., 73, of Farragut, Tennessee passed away on Friday June 9, 2017. He was born in Asheville, North Carolina to parents Ruth Ruby (Tweed) Stines and Jacob Brenton Stines in 1943. With an interest in and great aptitude for all things mechanical, Jay chose to enlist in the US Air Force after graduating from Oak Ridge High School in 1961. While stationed at Charleston Air Force Base in Charleston, South Carolina, he met his wife, Linda L. Mewborn and had two daughters, Terri and Beverly. After a military assignment at Shepard AFB, Texas, Jay and Linda left the USAF to relocate to Jay's hometown, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Jay obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Tennessee; he retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority, having worked at the Bull Run Steam Plant location for many years. After retiring from TVA, Jay continued to be involved in power plant systems, joining Synterprise as an Engineering Project Manager applying his expertise to power plants across the country and internationally.
Jay is survived by his wife, Linda; daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Jim Cummings; Beverly and Rick Cantrell; his sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Roy Nabors; his brother and sister-in-law, Stan and Carol Stines; very special friends sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ron and Rita Patterson; grandchildren, Brianna Cantrell, Blake Cantrell, Jordan Cummings and Ryan Cummings; one great-grandchild, Trenton Cummings; and several special nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 14 from 5pm to 7pm at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with service following; burial will be at Oak Ridge Memorial Park on Thursday, June 15 at 11am.
