Hilda Barrack, age 87, passed away Saturday, Dec. 13, at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge, surrounded by her three sons and husband, as well as her dedicated caregiver, Lisa Harper of Oliver Springs.
Mrs. Barrack was born Sept. 7, 1927, the third of four daughters to Louis and Anna Bloom in Brooklyn, N.Y., and moved to Oak Ridge in 1959 with her husband, Irv. She received Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education from the University of Tennessee and worked for over 20 years in the Oak Ridge School System. She developed an alternative education program to provide educational opportunities to hundreds of teenagers who faced a variety of social and educational challenges. Her efforts on their behalf were recognized with a teacher of the year award.
She is survived by her husband, Irving Barrack of Oak Ridge; son, Robert and daughter-in-law, Terry; and grandsons, Adam and Toby, of St. Louis; son, Jonathan and daughter-in-law, Cindy; and granddaughters, Stephanie and Elisa, of Memphis; and son, David and daughter-in-law, Alison; and granddaughter, Anna Rose; and grandson, Benjamin, of Marietta, Ga.
She was preceded in passing by her oldest son, Michael Steven Barrack on April 25, 2003.
