Helen Moody Meredith, age 96, of Lenoir City passed away Thursday May 24, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge.
A 60 year resident of Loudon County Helen was a member of First Baptist Church of Lenoir City and taught school for over 25 years at Eaton Elementary School and was the first grade teacher for hundreds of area residents. Known as "Miss Meredith" she retired in the early 1980's and enjoyed traveling and being with her many friends. She was born and raised in Grainger County to Roy and Dora Clark Moody who preceded her in death. She attended Carson Newman College where she met her husband, George Clifton Meredith, who preceded her in death. She lost a son, Gary Meredith, a Valedictorian of Lenoir City High, in 1958 and an infant daughter. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Katherine Kyte of Dandridge. She loved seeing many of her students during her retirement years and always remembered them and wanted to know about them even though decades had passed. She is survived by her son, W. Clark Meredith, and his wife Marie of Lenoir City; grandson Mark Meredith of Nashville; granddaughter Joan Meredith of Knoxville; and great granddaughters, Amy Meredith and Wendy Meredith both of Nashville.
Funeral services will be held Sunday May 27, 2012 2:00pm at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Kyte officiating. Interment will follow at the Lenoir City Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service from 1:00 to 2:00pm at the funeral home. Special thanks to Denise, Margaret, and Shannon for their kindness. The family requests in lieu flowers that remembrance be sent to Eaton Elementary School 423 Hickory Creek Rd. Lenoir City, TN 37771.
