Helen Carol England, 90, a former long-time resident of Oak Ridge, passed into the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Sunday afternoon, October 9, 2011. She passed peacefully in her sleep at the home of her daughter and son-in-law Helen and David Pickens in Dunwoody, Georgia.
She was born June 1, 1921 in Middlesboro, Kentucky to the late General Jackson and Lora Powell Humfleet. She was loved and respected by all who knew her. Her life was consumed by her love for God, family, and friends. She shared generously and saw the best in everyone she came in contact with. She was an expert seamstress and an amateur artist. She had a beautiful alto voice and loved singing hymns. She was a member of Central Baptist Church where she took an active role in teaching Sunday school. She also enjoyed bowling and playing bridge with her friends.
Besides her parents, two sisters and two brothers, Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle, son Jack England, and daughter-in-law Jean Stroupe England (Mrs. Donald England) she is survived by sons, Donald England, of Austin, Texas, James and his wife Bobbie Kaye Wallace England, of Jacksonville, Florida, daughter and son-in-law, Helen and David Pickens of Dunwoody, Georgia, daughter-in-law Charlotte Garrison England (Mrs. Jack England) of Knoxville, Tennessee, 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends in the chapel of Oak Ridge Memorial Park, Friday, October 14, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. with a service following with Pastor Tom Job officiating.
