Hazel Obituary

Hazel Lloyd Sims, age 96, formerly of Oak Ridge died Monday January 16, 2012 at the Harriman Care and Rehab Center where she had resided since June 2010.
Mrs. Sims was born in Chickamauga, Georgia on December 22, 1915 the third of four children born to the late Charles and Mary Lloyd. She came to Oak Ridge in 1944 to join her husband, Carl, who was employed at the Y-12 Plant. She worked as a buyer for the Boys Department at Lovemans Department Store, which became Millers Department Store until her retirement in 1981. A member of Glenwood Baptist Church for more than 60 years, she treasured her association with her Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, J. Carl Sims, a brother, Robert Lloyd, and a sister Daphne Davis. She is survived by a sister, Margaret Slayton, of Brooklyn, New York; a son and daughter-in-law Donald and Joann Sims ; grandchildren, Donald Sims, Jr. (Nikki) and Nancy Sims. Great- grandchildren: Kellie Ireland, Rion and Tia Wilkins; Arianna and Katrinia Welch, and Donovan Sims.
A funeral service will be held Thursday January 19, 2012 11:00am in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Hammer officiating. The family will receive friends before the service from 9:00 to 11:00am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
