Harry Richard Livesey, born September 11, 1928 passed away at his home on December 26, 2011 following a long and full life. He was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. His family came to Oak Ridge for his father to work on the Manhattan Project at Y-12. Harry graduated Oak Ridge High School in 1945 among the first classes to graduate from Oak Ridge's high school. Following the end of World War II, the Livesey family moved to the Chicago area and Harry joined the United States Naval Reserves. He then went to work at AEC where he met his first wife, Alma Deatherage who passed away in 1987.
Harry worked at both Y-12 and ORNL through the years and retired from ORNL in 1994. He was very active in the community serving as Scout Master with the Boy Scout Troop number 328, holding a life-long membership at Kern Memorial Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for many years, and playing the French horn in the Oak Ridge and Knoxville Symphony Orchestras. In 1964 Harry turned a life-long hobby in tropical fish keeping into a business called Harry's Aquarium. He, Alma, and daughters Debbie and Sharon operated Harry's Aquarium from the basement of their home on East Tennessee Avenue. The business became a fixture in Oak Ridge and continued to serve the public until closing in June 2010. Harry was a loyal and passionate fan of Oak Ridge High sports, missing few games until his illness this year. He was also a fan of the University of Tennessee football and worked as an usher at Neyland Stadium for over 20 years.
Harry was a charismatic, friendly man who loved making friends wherever he went. Among his other passions, he was a father, a grandfather, a husband, an artist of drawing and photography, a traveler, and a genealogist. He will be greatly missed by the family and the community.
Harry is survived by wife, Patricia Livesey, daughters Debbie Davies and Sharon Rogers; granddaughters, Natasha Davies Cortez, Heather Davies Colandro, and Laura Davies Aslinger. Great-grandsons Brett Stooksbury, Adam Stooksbury, and Aiden Colandro. Brother Robert Livesey and sister, Ruth Mrizek. Stepsons Rusty and Doug Schooch, stepdaughter Audrey Smith, step-grandsons Thomas (T.J.) Smith, Aaron Schooch and step-granddaughters Ella, Rebecca, and Chloe.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 29th at Kern Memorial United Methodist Church from 6:00 to 7:30 with memorial service following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to Kern Memorial United Methodist Church, 451 E. Tennessee Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
