Gwendolyn Angel Brown Wolfe, age 84, of Clinton passed away Monday April 14, 2014 at her home.
Gwendolyn was born March 5, 1930 in Johnson City, Tennessee to the late James Andrew and Mary Kathleen Starnes Angel. She attended the ETSU Training School, was a graduate of Washington Academy High School, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Lincoln Memorial University in 1952. She married Donley Clark Brown "Browny", now deceased, in a church wedding in 1954. Browny was so proud to have Gwen on his arm. Gwendolyn also found love again later in life and married Harold E. Wolfe October 30, 1993 at First United Methodist Church. She was employed with AEC, ERDA which evolved to the Department of Energy from 1952-1986 working in Public Relations, the Office of Assistant Manager for Research and Development, and was the Executive Secretary to the Manager from 1971-1986 when she retired early to help with the care of her ailing husband who battled Leukemia.
Gwendolyn had a wonderful career and life. She had many travels including Europe, mainly France, Spain, Austria, The Black Sea aboard "The Vista Fjord" including the Greek Isles with special friend Alena (Ginger) Street. In her younger years she modeled for Conley Morris and Nancy Lynn Fashion Boutique. She volunteered at the Oak Ridge Public Library, was active in the Woman Society of Oak Ridge United Methodist Church where she had been a member since 1952. She was an avid reader, loved to garden, and dancing was her passion. She belonged to the Lady of the Elks, where she was President for 5 years and held various other positions over the years, Oak Ridge Women's Club, Savoyards, National Association of Federal Employees, and served on the Lincoln Memorial University Board working with the literature and fine arts department, Alumnus Association, and was a house mother representative.
Gwendolyn is survived her husband Harold E. Wolfe of Clinton, brothers James Carroll Angel and wife Fonda of Louisville, TN, and Robert Eugene Angel and wife Janice of Jasper, GA, children Harold Wolfe , Jr. of Louisville, TN, Charlene and Tom Ellison of Cataula, GA, Ann Delozier and husband Mike of Maryville, TN, 7 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday April 17, 2014 2:00pm in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Jenny Caughman officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 12:00 to 2:00pm at the funeral home. Online messages may be left at www.martinfuneralhomeoakridge.com .
