Obituary: Trooper Grant Edward Gouldie
It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the passing of Tennessee State Trooper Grant Edward Gouldie, a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and servant of God, who was called home on November 16, 2024. A man of unwavering faith, Grant faithfully attended Salem Baptist Church, where his strong moral compass and deep love for Christ were evident to all who knew him.
Born on January 21, 1990, in Knoxville, Tennessee, and raised in Lake City (now Rocky Top), Grant graduated from Anderson County High School in 2008, where he excelled in basketball, football, and cross country. He pursued studies at Wesleyan College and Pellissippi State Community College, ultimately finding his calling in law enforcement. With grit and determination, he joined the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) in 2016, fulfilling a lifelong dream to serve and protect his community with integrity, strength, and compassion.
Trooper Gouldie was a towering figure in every sense—standing 6’8” with a commanding presence—and yet he had a heart as tender as his stature was impressive. Whether patrolling Knox County in his Ford SUV or astride his Harley Davidson Electra Glide, he carried himself with grace and humility. His unwavering commitment to upholding the high standards of the THP earned him the respect of his colleagues and the gratitude of those he served.
Grant often said, “I was called to this career by a higher power.” He approached his work not only as a duty but as a privilege, embodying the values of honesty, loyalty, and dependability. A skilled motor officer and field training officer, he mentored countless new troopers, shaping the next generation of law enforcement with patience and pride.
Away from the badge, Grant’s true joy was his family. His wife, Amanda, was his best friend and soulmate, and together they built a home filled with love and laughter. He was a devoted father to their three children—Maelynn, Jaxon, and Ava—never missing an opportunity to tell them he loved them. He led his family with unwavering strength, instilling in them the same values he lived by every day.
Grant was preceded in death by his grandfather, Archie Gouldie. He is survived by his parents, Susie and Dale Gouldie; his sister, Tara Thacker; nieces and nephews; and countless special friends and colleagues who were touched by his kindness and larger-than-life presence.
Trooper Grant Gouldie was a man of principle and character, whose life was defined by faith, family, and service. He was the toughest man many knew, with the softest heart, and his loyalty and compassion knew no bounds. He leaves behind a legacy of honor and love, a towering reminder of what it means to live with purpose and integrity.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 2:00pm – 6:00pm, Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Second Baptist Church in Clinton, TN. The funeral service will follow at 6:00pm, where we will celebrate the remarkable life of a man who truly made the world a better place. Trooper Grant Gouldie, your watch has ended. We will take it from here. Rest easy, knowing that your legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to inspire us all. You were a light in this world, and your memory will forever shine brightly in our hearts.
