Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Helton Schow

Elizabeth (“Betty”) Helton Schow, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, passed away Tuesday afternoon, December 3, 2024, at home. Betty was born April 4, 1931, in Wallins Creek, Harlan County, Kentucky. She was a member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Betty was proceeded in death by her husband of 57 years, O. E. Schow III., in 2012. She was also predeceased by her parents, Robert and Dorothy Helton, her mother and father- in-law, O.E.Schow, Jr. and wife Helen, and her brother and sister- in- law, Bob and Nancy Helton.

Betty is survived by her son, O.E. Schow IV (“Sonny”) his wife Sarah, and their three children Evan, Caroline, and Mary Helen, daughters, Virginia Barnes and her husband, Don, all of Knoxville, and Susan Schow and her husband, Naji Akladiss, of Topsham, Maine. 

The family will have a private graveside service on Saturday,December 7, 2024, at the Oak Ridge Memorial Park, with Reverend Monty Walton officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (www.stjude.org/donate) the Shriners Hospital for Children (www.donate.lovetotherescue.org) or ASPCA (www.secure.aspca.org/donate) or the organization of the donor’s choice.
