Eleanor Podell Agron, 93, died on February 21, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. She was born in 1918 to Max and Ida Podell, nee Lester. Along with her sister and two brothers, she was brought up in Queens, New York. Eleanor earned her bachelor's degree from Hunter College and later a master's degree in education from the University of Tennessee. She married Paul Abraham Agron in 1942. After giving birth to Michael, their first son, they moved to Oak Ridge in 1949, where Paul worked as a chemist at X-10. Two more sons, Leslie and David, were born in Oak Ridge. For almost 25 years, she taught math at schools in Norris, Oak Ridge, and Powell, as well as classes at Roane State Community College. Most of her teaching career was spent as chair of the Powell High School math department. Eleanor and Paul were founding members of the Jewish Congregation of Oak Ridge. She loved reading voraciously, playing bridge, knitting, crocheting, needle point, and traveling the world. She will be greatly missed by her husband, three sons, six grand children, two great grandchildren, and surviving younger brother. Funeral services will be held at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home on Sunday, February 26that 2:00 PM. All are invited to come celebrate her life.
