Earl Vernon Davis, 84, of Oak Ridge went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday November 16, 2011.
Mr. Davis was born on November 16, 1927 in Person County North Carolina to the late Charles Burch Davis, Sr. and Sadie Hawkins Davis. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps and served as an armed courier in Paris France following World War II and before being transferred to Germany. Mr. Davis came to Oak Ridge in 1951 and he retired from ORNL, X-10, and K-25 after thirty eight years of service. He received numerous employment awards and citations for his contributions in special projects for NASA (space capsule), and research in radiography, holography, holograms, and lasers. Mr. Davis' hobbies included playing the harmonica, the guitar, piano, and banjo. He enjoyed working on televisions radios, and also enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening. He had been an avid crappie fisherman and enjoyed animals especially his dog "Bumpkin".
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Harriett Swanson Clayton, one son Daniel Anderson Davis, two daughters Darrell Ann Waltrip and Diane Lynn Davis, three grandsons, two great grandchildren and his siblings Charles Burch Davis, Jr., Elva Davis Long, Donald Lee Davis, Clifford Jackson Davis, Nancy Davis Satterfield, and Jerry Stanford Davis.
Funeral service will be held Saturday November 19, 2011 2:00pm in the chapel of Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with Rev. Donald Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends before the service from 1:00 till 2:00pm.
