Dorothy Opal Ore, 89, of Oak Ridge died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Dorothy Ore was born April 16, 1922 in East St. Louis, Illinois to Ethel Turley Mooney and Edward Mooney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold Ore; an infant sister, Margaret Mooney, and a brother, Lee Mooney.
Mrs. Ore's surviving children include Patricia Muisenga of Palm Coast, Florida; Tom Ore and wife Donna of Winchester, Tennessee; John Ore and wife Laura Mae of Pflugerville, Texas; and Dorothy DeVan and husband Bill DeVan of Oak Ridge. Mrs. Ore has eight grandchildren, James Muisenga of Lombard, Illinois; Robert Muisenga, and Mary (Muisenga) Anderson both of Jacksonville, Florida; Thomas Ore of Winchester, Tennessee; Susan (Ore) Harwell of Nashville, Tennessee; Caroline DeVan of Newark, New Jersey; Nick DeVan of Nashville, Tennessee; and Rachel DeVan of Pensacola, Florida. Additionally, Mrs. Ore has three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was a devoted mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She was known for her zest for life, her independent spirit, and her lively sense of humor.
Dorothy was a homemaker during the years from 1940 to 1965. During the years from 1965-1978, Dorothy worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance, Co. in Oak Brook, Illinois; Life and Casualty of Nashville, Tennessee; and HCA of Madison, Tennessee. After retirement, Dorothy and Harold enjoyed several years of travel and much time spent with their children and growing grandchildren.
Along with being a homemaker, Dorothy enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren and quilt making. Her greatest joys in life, however, were those of having a loving husband and family, several very good friends and neighbors, especially weekly Tuesday sewing bee and church friends. She was a member of United Church, Chapel on the Hill.
The family will receive friends at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, August 26, 2011 at Martin Funeral Home, 1017 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held there at 12:30 P.M. In-lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Church, Chapel on the Hill, 85 Kentucky Avenue, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
