Donald Sheldon Scott, 84, passed away January 17, 2011 at the Methodist Medical Center.
Don was born December 22, 1926 in Steubenville Ohio, the son of John Sheldon Scott and Ethel Alberta Scott.
Don was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater, with the Headquarters Troop, 1st Cavalry Division of the US Army, and was a member of the Army of Occupation, Japan. He studied Geology at Marietta College, Ohio, and later moved to Oak Ridge and married Loretta Estelle Potts at the Chapel on the Hill in 1957. Don and Loretta made Oak Ridge thier life-long home where Don worked at the Y-12 plant as a machinist, retiring after 38 years of service. Don had many interests, including Archeology, Bowling, Amateur Radio, Motorcycles and Music. He was a founding member and officer of the ORION Research Group in Oak Ridge, and was a long time member of the Oak Ridge Sportsmans Association.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Loretta Scott; sister Dorothy Quick of Grove City Ohio, son Garret Sheldon Scott and wife Linda of Knoxville, and son David Wesley Scott of Fair Hope Alabama.
A graveside service will be held Saturday January 22 1:00pm at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
