David King, age 73, of Oak Ridge passed away Thursday January 20, 2011 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
Mr. King was born April 30, 1937 in Whitley County Kentucky to the late Dewey and Flora Ross King. Mr. King was a veteran of the United States Navy having served from 1955 to 1959. David along with his wife Gerri moved to Oak Ridge in 1976 and he opened his State Farm Insurance Agency in February of 1977 and worked with State Farm for 34 years. Mr. King was a member and served as a Deacon at Temple Baptist Church of Powell and also worked with and supported the Gideon's.
Preceded in death by his brother Charles King, two sisters Geneva Marler and Velma Hackworth, and his father-in-law Claude Powers Mr. King is survived by his wife of 53 years Gerri King of Oak Ridge, son Allan King and his wife Gina of Knoxville, grandchildren David Allan King III, Daniel Andrew King, and Leah Janette King all of Knoxville, five brothers Arvelee King of Hammond, IN, Boyd King and his wife Cleda of Oliver Springs, Abel King and his wife Cella of Lowell, IN, twin brother Jonathan and his wife Phyllis of Jellico, and Wayne King of Knoxville, three sisters Pricilla Fincher of Seattle, WA, Joyce Reeder and her husband Virgil of Harriman, and Nola Douglas of Oliver Springs, mother-in-law Nellie Powers of Williamsburg, KY, two sisters-in-law Lawanda King of Bixby, OK and Maxine Masters of Oak Ridge, brother-in-law Bill Powers of Williamsburg, KY and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be held Sunday January 23, 2011 6:00pm at Temple Baptist Church of Powell with Dr. Clarence Sexton officiating. Interment will be Monday January 24, 2011 10:00am at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends before the funeral service from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the church.
