My family and I are heartbroken to announce the death of my mother, Crystal Renee Powers. Crystal Powers passed away peacefully in our home on January 16, 2025. If you had the pleasure of knowing Crystal, you know she was always one to help people in a time of need. Every one of her siblings was taken in by her at one point or another. She even went as far as taking in my childhood friends when they had nowhere else to go.
Crystal was a part of the Oxford House of Tennessee community. She held every house position, chapter position, and eventually was the Oxford House of Tennessee State Association Chair. She loved every minute she spent in the Oxford community.
As saddened as I am by this loss, no one will miss her more than her granddaughters, Jessie and Elaine. Crystal was more than a mother, she was a Mimi. Crystal would host movie night parties for her and her granddaughters. She would have candy and all their favorite snacks for them. The Disney movie Encanto was one of their favorites to watch, and it was a running joke in our household that “we don’t talk about Bruno.” Crystal also taught her granddaughters about our Lord and always read them stories from the Bible. I will be forever grateful for everything she taught my girls.
Crystal is preceded in death by her parents, Gary Allen Powers and Susan Larabee Powers. She is survived by her four siblings, eight nieces and nephews, one child, and two grandchildren. Surviving family include her Daughter, Brianna Jordan and husband Mykal, Grandchildren Jessie and Elaine Jordan; Darin McBride, father of Brianna Jordan; Brother, Jack Powers, Nieces Haley and Caitlyn Powers; Brother, James Powers and wife Celia Powers, Nephews Isaiah and Landon Powers, Niece Alexandria Powers; Sister, Dr. Kayla Powers Jones, Nephews Ayden and Austen Jones, Niece Autumn Jones; and Brother, Joshua Powers.
We will all miss her dearly, but I speak for us all in saying we find comfort knowing she is reunited with her parents. She changed so many lives for the better, and as her daughter, my only hope is to inspire people the way she did. We love you, Mama. Thank you for every second chance you ever gave someone, and know those chances will never be taken for granted.
