Beloved daughter, wife, mother, sister, Ganny, and friend Carolyn Christine Mealer passed away suddenly on September 13, 2019 at Methodist Medical Center.
Carolyn was born in Camp Lejeune, NC, on August 22, 1951 to Charles and Alma Jean Prince. She spent her early life in Defiance, OH, and met the love of her life, Herbert Mealer, there in 1968. She attended Sweet Briar College and graduated from Kent State in 1973. They spent time living in Georgia and South Carolina, before returning to Ohio to start their family, and ultimately settling in Oak Ridge in 1986. She spent most of her career as a realtor, most recently with Realty Executives and POET LLC. Her love of helping people find their perfect home touched countless members of this community.
She had a soft spot in her heart for dogs, cats, horses, deer, and pretty much every other critter. She reveled in the beauty of every historic house she ever saw. She loved the ocean and being on the water which fostered an early career in container ship logistics. Carolyn held several jobs, but the one of which she was proudest was mother to Michael, Katie, and Danny. She was "Mama Mealer" to the Oak Ridge Rowing Association during all of her children's time there, playing the role of loudest cheerleader and driving to the boathouse more times in her life than anyone can count. As a mother she offered infinite love, wisdom, patience, and support every single day. She wanted the best for everyone she loved and worked hard to get it for them.
Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Herbert Mealer of Oak Ridge; her children, Michael Mealer and wife Emma of Richland, WA, Katie Fanjoy and husband Joel of Quincy, MA, and Danny Mealer and girlfriend Danielle Coffey of Knoxville; two grandchildren, Logan and Nicholas Fanjoy; her parents, Chuck and Alma Jean Prince of Innsbrook, MO; brother Alan Prince and wife Chris of Innsbrook, MO; her beautiful Boxer dog, Kaycee; and a host of loving extended family and friends.
Receiving of friends and family will be held at Martin's Oak Ridge Funeral Home on Thursday, September 19th from 4:00-5:30pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made to Katerpillar Kids Camp c/o Fort Sanders Foundation, 280 Fort Sanders West Blvd., Ste. 202, Knoxville, TN 37922, or the Young-Williams Animal Shelter of Knoxville.
