Betty Haste

Bettye Christian Haste, age 85, of Oak Ridge, passed away Saturday, August 17, 2019.

Born Aug. 9, 1934 in Middlesboro, KY to Ray and Mary Christian. Bettye was valedictorian of her 1952 graduation class from Middlesboro High School, then graduated from Eastern Kentucky University in 1956 with a double major where she was listed in the "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges 1955-1956". Bettye married Glenn Roy Haste, Jr. on June 16, 1962 at First Baptist Church of Oak Ridge.

Bettye was a math teacher in the Oak Ridge School system (1956 - 1963) first teaching at Jefferson Junior High School before moving to Oak Ridge High School where she taught Advanced Math. She retired from teaching in 1963 to raise her family. She was an active member of P.E.O. and Delta Kappa Gamma for many years, even well into her retirement, and was an avid Kentucky Wildcat Basketball fan.

Bettye is survived by her husband of 57 years, Glenn Haste Jr. and three sons Robert Haste (wife Jenny) of Memphis, Dale Haste and Mark Haste (wife Shawna) of Oak Ridge. She is also survived by sisters Doris Worley and Susie Leach (husband Jim) of Kingsport. Nieces and Nephews: Jenny Nuckolls, Ed Worley, Chuck Leach, and Gene Leach (Kingsport), Charles Worley and David Worley (Ashville, NC), Jim Counts, Marti Brittenham, and Janeen Counts (New Mexico). Grandchildren: Jessica Wiley and Andrew Haste (Memphis), Victoria Brown, Olivia Haste, Jeremiah Haste, Connor Haste, and Samantha Haste (Oak Ridge). Great Grandchild: Catalaya Brown (Oak Ridge).

Visitation with the family will be from 2-3 pm August 20, 2019 at First United Methodist Church in Oak Ridge followed by a Celebration of Life service at 3pm.
