Arthur Lee—beloved father, brother, son, professor, and friend—passed away on February 20, 2022 at age 59. He is survived by his beloved children, Bill and Christine, as well as his mother Theresa and his younger sisters Annette and Angela. He is predeceased by his father Ying K. Lee.
Arthur grew up in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and earned a BS in Geosciences from Penn State University, a MS Masters in Geology from Temple University, and a PhD in Geology from University of Southern California.
Arthur joined the faculty of Roane State Community College in Oak Ridge, Tennessee in 2000. He was a beloved and tenured professor and dedicated teacher, earning the highest praise from his many students. His passion for education and for geology was contagious, and his devotion to his students unparalleled. As just one example, Arthur helped bring to life a program called “Lab-in-a-Box,” a hands-on approach to science for middle school students. Arthur also taught inmates at the Morgan County Correctional Complex, driving there twice each week—once to deliver a three-hour lecture and again to facilitate a lab session.
Arthur will be remembered as a lover of the Beatles, a loyal friend who truly saw and sought the best in others, an endlessly curious mind, and a loving father.
A funeral service will be held for Arthur at the Roane State campus in Oak Ridge from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm Saturday, April 30, 2022. All are welcome to attend, and light refreshments will be served after the service. For those unable to attend in person, the service should be available via livestream on https://youtu.be/2pWdMP01NyI.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations made in honor to the Arthur Lee Scholarship Fund via check to Roane State Foundation, 276 Patton Lane, Harriman, TN 37748, or given online at www.roanestate.edu/donate. Please indicate in the check memo, or in the text box online, that your gift is in memory of Dr. Arthur Lee.
