Anna Dobbins

March 13, 1923 — February 18, 2017

Anna George Dobbins, 93, of Oak Ridge, TN died on February 18, 2017. A native of Sylacauga, AL (Gantt's Quarry), Miss Dobbins graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, AL and Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Rae Hill Dobbins and Robert Anderson Dobbins and her brother, Robert Anderson Dobbins, Jr.
She is survived by her partner of 59 years, Peggy Turner of Oak Ridge; two nieces, Sally Dobbins (Rick Heggood) of Sautee, GA and Deborah Dobbins Livingston of Franklin, TN; two great-nieces, Lauren Dobbins Webb of Van Nuys, CA and Meredith Dobbins Webb (Jacob Enoch) of Minneapolis, MN; three great-nephews, Peter Dobbins Webb of Athens, GA, Daniel Dobbins Livingston of Carbondale, CO, and Seth Dobbins Livingston of Chattanooga, TN; and one great-great-nephew, Oscar James Webb-Enoch of Minneapolis, MN.
Anna retired from Y-12 in 1992 after 44 years of service as a metallurgist. She was an avid photographer of nature and used that medium to chronicle her travels with Peggy across the seven continents.
She was a loyal and active member of First Presbyterian Church Oak Ridge and was elected the first female ruling elder in 1950. She also served as treasurer for many years.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at First Presbyterian Church Oak Ridge at a later date. Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Home for Children in Talladega, AL (905 Ashland Hwy, Talladega, AL 35160) or Foothills Land Conservancy in Maryville, TN (373 Ellis Ave, Maryville, TN 37804).
