Abbie "Jane" Sherman, age 90, of Oak Ridge passed away Sunday June 17, 2012 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.
She was a native of Salina, Kansas and the only daughter of William F. "Frank" and Olive Madden, both deceased. Mrs. Sherman was a long time active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She came to Oak Ridge in February 1945 to be with her late husband, Robert L. Sherman, Sr., who was sent to Oak Ridge in December 1944 as a member of the Army Special Engineering Detachment. They were preceded in death by their sons William F. "Bill" and Robert L. Jr. "Bobby". Mrs. Sherman enjoyed traveling with her husband as well as sewing, crocheting, and playing cards.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Marianne and Andrew McCulloch, of Oak Ridge, granddaughter Haley Lynn McCulloch (The Light of Abbie's Life) of Oak Ridge, several sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held Friday June 22, 2012 2:00pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oak Ridge. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday June 21, 2012 6:00 to 8:00pm at Martin Oak Ridge Funeral Home with a Rosary Service following.
